Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 22, 2025 · Effective immediately

TL;DR: BlurtMe is designed so we can't read your data even if we wanted to. Everything is encrypted on your device. We collect almost nothing. We sell nothing. Your thoughts are yours.

1. Who We Are

BlurtMe is an iOS application developed and operated by BlurtMe.app (referred to as "we", "us", or "our"). If you have any questions about this policy, reach us at contact@blurtme.app.

2. What Data We Collect

Data you create in the app

All messages, notes, tasks, and moments you type in BlurtMe are stored locally on your device only, encrypted with AES-256-GCM using a key that never leaves your device. We have no access to this content — ever.

Your messages are encrypted before they are stored. We hold no decryption key. Even under legal compulsion, we cannot provide the content of your notes.

If you enable cloud sync (BlurtMe+)

When you opt in to cloud sync, your data is encrypted on your device before it is transmitted. Our servers store only ciphertext. We cannot read it. The sync account requires only an email address for authentication.

Crash and diagnostic data

We may collect anonymous crash reports to help improve app stability. These reports contain no message content — only technical information such as device model, iOS version, and stack traces. You can opt out in iOS Settings → Privacy → Analytics.

What we do NOT collect

  • The content of any message, note, task, or moment you write
  • Your location
  • Advertising identifiers (IDFA)
  • Browsing history or cross-app tracking
  • Contact list, microphone, camera, or any other sensitive permission

3. How We Use Your Data

We use the minimal data we collect only to:

  • Operate and improve the BlurtMe app
  • Authenticate your account for cloud sync (email only)
  • Diagnose crashes and technical issues
  • Respond to your support requests

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties, except:

  • Service providers who help us operate the app (e.g., cloud infrastructure). These providers are contractually bound to protect your data and cannot use it for their own purposes.
  • Legal requirements — if required by law. As noted above, we cannot produce plaintext message content because we don't have access to it.

5. Data Retention

Local data exists only on your device and is controlled entirely by you. Uninstalling the app removes all local data permanently.

If you use cloud sync, your encrypted backup is retained until you delete your account. Upon account deletion, all server-side data is permanently removed within 30 days.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access, correct, or delete your account data by contacting us
  • Delete all your data by deleting your account or uninstalling the app
  • Opt out of crash analytics via iOS system settings
  • Request a copy of any personal data we hold about you

To exercise any of these rights, email us at contact@blurtme.app.

7. Children's Privacy

BlurtMe is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Security

We take security seriously. All data you create is encrypted using AES-256-GCM with a key stored in your device's secure keychain. In-transit data uses TLS 1.3. We do not store encryption keys server-side.

If you lose your device and haven't backed up, your data cannot be recovered. This is a feature, not a bug — it means no one else can access it either.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll notify you of significant changes via an in-app notice or email (if you have an account). Continued use of BlurtMe after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
